1. R22 Refrigerant Is A Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC).
Refrigerants like R22 are classified as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). This means that they contain hydrogen, chlorine & fluorine atoms in their molecular structure. HCFCs are considered ozone-depleting substances (ODS) & are being phased out in favor of more environmentally-friendly options.
R22 is an HCFC that is used in home & commercial air conditioning units, as well as in refrigerators & they are the only reason refrigerators have cold air coming out of them.
The refrigerant gas is pumped into the coils in the back. When the gas comes into contact with the cold air in the freezer, it turns into a liquid. This liquid is then pumped through the fridge to keep everything inside incredible, fresh & cold.
2. It Was Once Commonly Used As A Refrigerant In Air Conditioners & Other Cooling Systems.
R22 was once a standard refrigerant in air conditioners & other cooling systems. However, it is being phased out due to its negative impact on the environment.
